FILMING DAY ONE

Filming day one had its challenges. First of all getting the cast together was difficult as the filming date was the only time in the holidays which all participants were free, once this was arranged the weather posed its own problems. Initially I had scripted for a sunny summers day, however it had decided to be quite the opposite. However, rain made a better backdrop for the film as its more typical of classic British weather, as well as this the rain had allowed me to integrate some nice props and costume such as British flag umbrellas and welly's which worked in my favour and made the appearance of the characters stand out.

Other than this the results were quite positive, a good chunk of filming was achieved and the settings of the areas in and around my house were ideal for the vision I had on my mood board. In the end the rain hadn't even impacted the filming process the much, apart from effecting the amount of filming which was achieved. The rain also wasn't too visible on camera and so with a bit of editing a brighter look was achieved.

My next steps for filming are to film the rest of the film which includes my three main characters, and leave the big bad and voice over for after the second filming day. So far my second filming day has been scheduled and voice over equipment has been secured.

FILMING DAY TWO

​

Day two was far better than the first. No rain and sunny skies worked in mine and the actors favour and also contributed to showing a passing of time between the set up and the rising action.

Double the content was filmed on this day with all the filming being officially over!
Because of this and so little which went wrong there is littles to report apart from editing has started and the voice over is scheduled for the following weeks. 

 

VOICE OVER DAY

 

The main character played by Flori Claydon performed the voice over perfectly. We decided on a cockney accent to reflect the strong accents often found in British gangster film such as Layer Cake or The Gentlemen. Though some may argue it doesn't fit in continuity with the gangster true accent I would counter it adds another layer to her trying to separate herself from the story.

 

CASTING CHOICES

 

Flori Claydon - As 'The Gangster'

 

Flori was chosen as a no brainer. She has been in past production in and outside of school and has a near perfect Lander score (99/100). She also has a confident personality which worked perfectly for a main character and a very distinct and persuasive voice and way of speech.

Poppy Jeffery - As 'Henchmen One'

​

I wanted a personality that would juxtapose the serious nature of Floris character. Poppy being bubbly and having a sweet appearance provided exactly that. She also in her performance, her expressions/ way of speech, delivered in becoming a kind of Aloof, airy character.

Lewis Bennett - 'As 'Henchmen Two'

​

Within the core a trio I felt a male personality was needed to balance with this brilliantly female cast. Lewis was a perfect choice as well due to the tight friend ship he had with Flori and Poppy which made their on screen chemistry even more believable.

WHY IS THIS LOCATION SUTIBLE FOR YOUR PROJECT:

.The fields featured a perfectly encapsuled authentic British country side which was key for my production. It was along a public footpath making it easily accessible and was a quick walk from my house adding to this factor. 

.My living room made the perfect formal appearance for the big bad's layer. It naturally offered red elements of mise en scene and had a record player which was a key element in my production. It is somewhere I am comfortable with and allowed me to move the layout as I want,

.My garden shelter was secluded and easily accessible making an ideal hide out for my characters. Through manipulation of big umbrellas the area became dimmed adding to the secluded atmosphere. 

.A school classroom was a place that I could easily access and provided the sensible office like interior that I needed.
